Simply put, you can't go about even the simplest day-to-day activities. I should know because I used to get stiff necks constantly when I was a kid. Chiropractors can really help, but they're expensive!

Although the demonstration below is in Chinese, it's easy enough to follow along and get the gist of it. One thing that's universally easy to understand is the look of relief on the face of the young woman in the video.
She starts by lying down flat on her back, and it's clear that she's in great discomfort due to her neck. One of the demonstrators then takes a towel and places it underneath her left shoulder, elevating it roughly six inches from the table. He then tells her to breathe deeply for roughly ten seconds.
When the towel is removed, the girl gets up with the most miraculous look of relief on her face. She literally can't believe how her pain seems to have vanished. It's truly incredible to think that the trick was so simple. I wish I'd known about this years ago!
