Ah, good old jeans! Everyone has their favorite pair and they go with just about anything. Dress 'em up, dress 'em down, jeans are a great staple for anyone to have in their closet. The one downside? It often seems nearly impossible to find a pair that fit properly. They might fit in the waist, but are loose everywhere else. Or maybe, they're well-fitted except for a gaping waistband.
Well, rather than give up on jeans entirely, Heather from Pleats & Ruffles has figured out a method to custom-fit any pair of jeans so they fit your shape to a T!
Heather was an old hand at taking in jeans, but she normally was working with a pair that were too big everywhere. So, what to do if you've got just one problem with an otherwise perfect pair of jeans?
Her friend came to her with just that problem. She found a pair of jeans she absolutely loved ... except when it came to the thighs. They were just a little too loose, resulting in baggy legs and the always-feared saggy butt.
So, with the aim of ending the dreaded saggy butt effect that jeans can sometimes have, Heather got to work. She started with a bit of an odd request, too: take your jeans off, turn them inside out and put them right back on.
First, Heather began pinning down the side, taking up all the extra fabric. After she finished pinning and adjusting the right side, it's obvious that just a little alteration makes a big difference.
For such a simple solution, it sure does have a big pay-off! Now, let's get down to the nitty gritty ...
As mentioned, begin by putting your jeans on inside out. Then, start pinning where they DO fit you, placing the pins at the seam. Gradually, take them in more, following the natural lines of your legs. Finally, once you reach the knees, gradually angle back out to the original seam.
Once you're done pinning, slip off your jeans (carefully!) and stitch along the line made by your pinning.
Who would have thought that two simple stitches would have such an effect?
These jeans aren't tailor-made, but they're about as close as you can get without spending an arm and a leg.
But what if baggy thighs and saggy butt aren't your jean complaints? Sometimes, a gaping waistband can be the culprit behind ill-fitting jeans. If that's the case, the solution is just as easy ... or maybe even easier! Two simple stitches, again, will make all the difference. Just place two darts in the back of the waistband of your jeans to tighten them up. This technique probably looks familiar, since it's the same one used on women's tailored shirts.
