Self-Driving Semi Trucks Prove That The Future Really Is Now
May 10, 2015
That's why auto company Daimler has been working on a self-driving, largely autonomous semi that will help making trucking (and highways) much safer. The truck would have a lot of autonomous features but doesn't cut out the driver altogether. The driver now monitors the truck's essential functions, and can take over if need be. This allows them to experience much less fatigue.
Truckers: they're often called the backbone of America. As someone who has spent a lot of time on the road, I can honestly say truckers are pretty cool as long as you understand that they're under an enormous amount of stress to make seemingly impossible deadlines while trying to maintain control of a massive, hard-to-steer cargo. It's a very demanding job and unfortunately a significant number of highway accidents involves big rigs and tired truckers.
