We love recycling and one of the most fun ways to do it is by upcycling – taking something that was headed for the dump and creating a whole new life for it with just a little imagination and elbow grease. This idea for a rescued tire dog bed is one of the cutest, more cheerful projects we've seen born out of something as unsightly as an old tire. And I can't believe how easy it is to make.
Here's what you'll need:
- An old tire (most tire places or mechanics will be happy to give you an old one for recycling)
- Spray paint that's specially designed for rubber
- A stiff bristled brush
- A round pet bed with a few extra pillows
First, use the brush and some soap and water to clean off the tire.
Let it dry. You'll want to make sure you get the inside and the outside of the tire completely clean.
Lay down a tarp or some cardboard and spray paint the tire. You may need to do a few coats.
Once it's completely dry, attach some felt furniture feet to the bottom. This will make sure that when the bed shifts, it doesn't rub the spray paint off onto your floor.
Fill the tire with the dog bed and stuff extra pillows in to get it nice and comfy. A 36-inch round bed should be about the right fit.
Perfect for this road dog.
