Did you know that the limbo was first performed before funerals? The ritual dance emerged in the mid or late 19th century, on the islands of Trinidad and Tobago. Typically, a horizontal bar, or pole, is placed on top of two vertical bars. People then bend their backs and move under the bar. If someone accidentally knocks the bar off or falls over, they are eliminated. Then the bar is ever so slightly lowered, and the contest continues on. It only ends when one person limbos under the bar. In America, Chubby Checker popularized the limbo during the 1960s. His hit single, Limbo Rock, reached #2 on the Billboard charts. However, I bet no one has ever pulled a prank like the one in this next video when you've tried to limbo.
