Special Needs Teen Attends Prom With Her Dream Date

Jun 11, 2016 By Archit Tripathi

As a parent, you always wish the best for your child. You want your child to have all the experiences and fond memories associated with youth. Unfortunately, this can be harder for some parents than others. We live in a society that, sadly, tends to be too quick to judge those who are different from us. For those with special needs, who already face plenty of physical obstacles, this judgement and ridicule represent an emotional obstacle that is often just as insurmountable as any physical challenge could be.

Angi McLemore is a single mother who has seen her daughter, Destiny, suffer through plenty over the last 17 years. The teen is a special needs student at Anderson High School in Indiana, and has endured a lot of odd looks and stares from people, as well as outright ridicule and rejection. It's heartbreaking, but Destiny seems to take it all in stride. When it came time for the special needs prom at her school, she knew exactly who she wanted as her date - Grant Kelley, a senior who is the school's mascot, plays on the soccer team, and performs in the show choir.

Needless to say, Angi was a little intimidated by Destiny's choice. Grant was a very popular senior, and popular kids aren't exactly famous for being super nice. Nothing, however, could have prepared Angi for Grant's response. Watch what happens in the video below.

Be sure to SHARE this beautiful prom-posal with your family and friends.
