In a generous effort, comedian Stephen Colbert, along with Morgridge Family Foundation and ScanSource, is funding every existing grant request in South Carolina, which equates to around $800,000. The grant requests come from the website, which allows teachers and school personnel to submit requests for school projects on a crowdfunding platform. The donation is funding nearly 1,000 projects at 375 different schools across the state.

DonorsChoose is a nonprofit organization that allows donors to directly fund public school classroom projects. The site was founded in 2005 by former social studies teacher Charles Best. He was a teacher at the Wings Academy in the Bronx. His site was among the first of the crowdfunding movement to direct funds to public schools.
