This simply ingenious trick has long been used by florists to keep arrangements beautifully neat. However, it's not the only tip that can help you up your flower arranging game. If you're bringing home flowers to create a beautiful design, stick the stems in water as soon as you walk in the door. Fill vases (or whatever's handy) with room temperature water, add flower preservative, and finally the flowers themselves. When it comes time to start arranging the flowers, cut about an inch off each stem as you place it in the vase. Also watch out for any leaves that fall below the water line and strip them off as you position your bouquet. Start with the largest, heaviest flowers first, then fill in with more delicate blossoms.
