BioCarbon Engineering is a U.K.-based corporation with Lauren Fletcher at its helm. His startup company's motto is "Changing the World: One Billion Trees At A Time." Fletcher worked for NASA for twenty years before starting his own business. The intent is to use emerging technologies to precisely and meticulously plant trees to increase the likelihood of healthy forest development.
Destruction of forest resources is at an estimated 26 billion trees per year, and the company is focused on slowing down that speed. The company functions in three phases: mapping of the areas where drones are dispatched to collect three-dimensional images of the ground, sending planting drones out to plant seeds using special launchers and, finally, other drones are then sent out to map the progress of the seeds' growth.
