Did you know that baking soda, miraculous as it may be, is actually a naturally occuring mineral? It’s true! Often called nahcolite (but not nacholite) in this context, it’s found inside volcanos and also dissolved in the waters of hot springs. It’s even one of the touted ingredients in many natural mineral waters. Used by the Egyptians in paintings, used by Europeans for centuries as a cure-all tonic (still very popular in your favorite antacid), baking soda really seems to do it all.
