The U.K. Is About To Harness The Power Of Tides

Mar 4, 2015
The idea of finding a useful way to harness the power of tidal waters is not a new one. There are records of grain mills dating back to Roman times that utilized the ebb and flow of a body of water to turn waterwheels that subsequently turned the mill. In modern times, tidal power has been in consideration along with solar and wind, but was much more costly and complicated and was therefore only implemented on a limited scale.

Recent advances in technology have made tidal power a much more competitive option. Unlike solar or wind, tidal power is infinitely more predictable and reliable. Although there are other tidal power plants around the world, the Swansea project would be the first large-scale lagoon.
