These Helpful Charts Tell You How Often You Need To Clean Everything In Your House (A.K.A. How To Adult)

You've probably seenĀ Good Housekeeping's logo as a seal of approval on a variety of goods, but (believe it or not) they actually also give a lot of tips on how to be good at housekeeping. Crazy, right? This helpful guide lets you know the answer to that age-old question: "Am I supposed to clean (object), and how often?"

When I first moved out on my own, I was asking myself that question constantly (I still do). The answer to the first question is simply "Yes, everything must be cleaned at some point." The answer to the second question, however, can vary greatly, and is addressed in the helpful charts below.

Every Day

You may not be able to get all of these done every day, but do your best to stay on top of it.

Every Week

These are the "bare minimum" chores that make sure you don't end up on a TLC special. This is the kind of stuff that will help you survive a surprise visit from Mom.

Every Month

This is the stuff that your meanest in-laws would try to passive aggressively nitpick over. It's the "extra credit" cleaning.

Every 3-6 Months

This is the kinda thing that'll make Mom go from not worrying about you being a slob to her being genuinely impressed. Did you know how to descale a coffee maker? I didn't until now, and lemme tell ya - it's a game changer.

Every Year

If you've finished all the other chores, you are officially a boss at adulting. Good job!
