Stone walls can be the perfect way to make any part of your home stand out. Whether it be part of your home’s exterior or something as simple as a stone fireplace, the use of stone can bring a very rustic yet warm feeling to any home. Stone has been used for centuries in the construction of buildings, but modern techniques using steel, brick, concrete and cement have made construction easier and far more cost efficient. For this reason, it is increasingly rare to see stone being used.

Andreas Kunert and Naomi Zettl are trying to change the way that we view traditional stone design with some of their amazing creative projects. Based in Vancouver Island, Canada, the couple has garnered critical acclaim for their skillful talents and painstakingly created murals.

Each piece is created from thousands of rocks that are carefully chosen by hand and cemented in place.

This installation is the largest they have ever created as it measures 12 by 650 feet.

This massive mural is on display to the public and was created for the town of View Royal, British Columbia. The design features thousands of rocks in elegant spiral patterns that flow into each other.

Spheres are some of the examples of carved stone that are often featured in the murals. Hand carved spirals also feature in certain areas in addition to chiseled stone disks.

Many of their pieces are meant for outdoor enjoyment and are perfectly accented by the surrounding greenery.

I can only imagine what it would be like to have a wall like this as a backdrop to a garden.

The couple also take on custom commissioned pieces upon request. Having something like this at your next barbecue is sure to make you the talk of the town.

While many of their most famous pieces are meant for the outdoors, they have created several works that would be spectacular within any home.

Can you imagine what your home would look like with a fireplace like this?

Some of their most interesting designs contrast from their usual. This magnificent fireplace is made of a few carefully carved boulders placed together. It looks like something out of a fairy tale.

This fireplace utilizes wood and steel in addition to stone. Aside from supporting the wooden branch, the steel is twisted to resemble leaves and foliage. The piece was commissioned by clients that were inspired by an ancient burial ground near their home.
