This Guy Used Scraps Of Wood To Build This House. After Seeing The End Result, I Want To Live There.

Would you believe someone if they told you they could build a home for less than $5,000? What if they told you they could even create a “Hobbit house” with that money, just like the one you’ve always dreamed of? Needless to say, I would be skeptical at best.

However, this type of amazing construction is a very real thing. By using mostly scraps, Simon Dale was able to spend under $5,000 when he built his family a Hobbit house in the Welsh countryside in 2003 – now, he is revealing exactly how he did it. If you’ve ever read Tolkien and wished that you could live in one of the “tidy and comfortable holes” he described, take a look below.

Here is Simon Dale and his family outside of their very own Hobbit house.

The house looks just like the sets that Peter Jackson created for Lord of the Rings.

Here is a peek at Dale’s original plans for the Hobbit house and surrounding property.

Dale built the home with his own two hands. Here, he is securing the framework.

Dale only needed three tools: a chisel, a chainsaw, and a hammer.

Not bad for a minimalist.

Dale estimates that it took between 1,000 and 1,500 hours to complete the home.

This is one project that was so worth his time.

While the home is modern and comfortable, it also maintains a delicate balance with the nature around it.

When Dale and his family are home, they are snuggled right up next to the beauty of the earth.

The result is breathtaking.

However, the house doesn’t just appreciate nature – it respects it. Features such as a compost toilet allow the Dale family to co-exist in peace with their surroundings.

The Dale family’s home is straight out of the pages of a storybook, memorable and amazing. To learn more about how Simon Dale built his house, check out his website.
