The African lion is a must-see on any visit to the zoo. With some sub-species growing to over 550lbs, they are one of the most predominant symbols of African wildlife. However, since the start of the 20th century, the lion has suffered from significant decreases in population to the point where they are now considered to be a threatened species and are the subject of conservation efforts. Zookeeper Kevin Richardson spends most of his time caring for lions and considers himself to be a self-taught naturalist and a "lion whisperer". Kevin has created a deep bond with big cats and has fed, slept next to and lived with them. The nature of the bond will definitely surprise you.
