Some future this has been, right? No flying cars, no jetpacks, no hoverboards, no teleporters ... Smartphones are pretty cool and the Internet's not too shabby, but we're still nowhere near the effortless, push-button future the Jetsons and others promised us.

One area where scientists have made a surprising number of inroads is in mind control. It's not something you read about in the papers every day, but devices which can read your brainwaves and translate them through a computer interface have actually reached the consumer level.

One of the lowest-cost devices, the $99 MindWave headset, is at the center of this awesome project from BBC, which allows users to control their television with only their brain. Future, here we come.
