Parrots can be wonderful pets. They are much more sensitive than is often thought and take their place in their family very seriously, as they stick with their "flock" for life. As with any pet, introducing a new family member properly is key. Before baby is born, it's a good idea to train your parrot to entertain itself to some extent. Without a way to keep itself occupied, your parrot might feel ignored, which means it will begin to seek attention in a not necessarily positive manner. Once baby is home, make sure to pay attention to your bird when your infant is awake, as well as when he or she is asleep. Interacting only during nap time will cause your parrot to develop a positive association with baby's absence.
