The next time you're trekking along the coast of South Africa and Namibia, keep your eyes and ears peeled for this vociferous desert rain frog. Also known as Breviceps macrops, these frogs burrow deep into the cool, moist sand to beat the scorching sun. Sadly though, these little guys might be going the way of the dodo. Thanks to encroaching human development and diamond mining, their habitats are threatened and they are quickly disappearing. Fortunately, the BBC shared some footage, captured by wildlife photographer Dean Boshoff, featuring these creatures' "ferocious" roar. Don't watch this near your pup, he may think this frog wants to play rather than fight.
