Visitors can watch monkeys dive bomb from trees into swimming pools. Welcome to Monkey Jungle, where humans get caged and monkeys run wild. Just reading that on a sign would make some of us turn the car around immediately. This brilliant concept was thought up in response to animal neglect in traditional zoos. Since 1993, Monkey Jungle has been changing the zoological world in a unique and innovative way.
At Monkey Jungle, the monkeys are free to roam, while the humans file through cages.
This looks a lot like any cage you'd find at the zoo, but, believe it or not, this is a walkway built for humans.
Animal behaviorist, Joseph DuMond, is the mastermind behind this awesome attraction. Today, Monkey Jungle has over 400 primates, hailing from over 30 different species.
This is what you can see just about everywhere inside the zoo. Aren't they adorable?
If you are ever Miami, Florida this place is a must-see for the whole family.
The rainforest atmosphere in DuMond's creation was built with handpicked materials over the course of many years. The monkeys love the familiar ambiance, and as a result, are comfortable accepting healthy snacks from visitors.
The jungle has gibbon, orangutans, howlers, guenons, spider monkeys and even gorillas.
It’s awesome that these animals have a place to run and be themselves.
They are free to interact with their environment, visitors, and of course, each other. It’s an incredibly unobtrusive way for humans to get up close and personal with nature.
