The emphasis of the initiative is to broaden student interest in science through the creation of raps, and it culminates with a final rap battle competition. MindShiftKQED is the YouTube channel associated with both MindShift and KQED, who partnered together to form their social media presence.
KQED is a public media provider for Northern California and MindShift is an organization that explores learning and all its dimensions. MindShift looks at areas like neuroscience and its impact on learning, poverty, inequities, digital learning and more. The group researches and explores the evolution of learning and the impact on students today.
Dr. Christopher Emdin is a tenured professor at Columbia University in the department of mathematics, science and technology in Teachers College. He is most well known for the website Rap Genius and his collaboration with rapper GZA of the Wu-Tang Clan to create the Science Genius B.A.T.T.L.E.S (Bring Attention to Transforming Teaching, Learning and Engagement in Science).
