They're at opposite ends of life, but relationships between the young and the old are supremely beneficial to all. The power of a simple wave is understood across the world; day-to-day interaction, like in this preschool, is even better. So, why do friendships between the young and old have so many pros?
For the children, hearing the myriad stories that older folks have to tell teaches them what a real role model looks like. Hindsight being 20/20, older people have wisdom to share, too. For the elderly, children bring joy, energy, and excitement, things that can be missing from an environment populated entirely by seniors. Sometimes, nursing homes can inadvertently encourage isolation, something lively young people can dispel.
