She Places A Photo On A Block Of Wood And Leaves It Overnight. What It Becomes Is Astounding

In 1839, the first commercial camera came onto the market. The film development process was much different than we know it today. Louis Daguerre created a process by which an image was produced by exposing a metal plate which would capture the fine details of the scene taken by the photographer. Iodine and silver were used to produce the final image.

It was also in 1839 that the word photography was coined by Sir John Herschel. It is based on the Greek word, phos and graphe. Put together, it literally means "drawing with light." It was not until 1861 that the first durable color photo was produced by Thomas Sutton. In this video, watch how this woman transforms her family photos into a modern work of art.
