You're never too old to adopt a healthy lifestyle. If you don't believe me, just take Ernestine Shepherd's word for it. She's a world-famous bodybuilder and she just turned 80. It's hard to tell from looking at her but, believe it or not, she didn't even start exercising until she was 56!
She must have some secret, right? Not really. She says the key to her success is simple: she never gives up. Thanks to her hard work and dedication, she's won two bodybuilding titles and entered the Guinness Book of World Records as the "World's Oldest Female Bodybuilder."
Ernestine Shepherd, the world's fittest grandma, was born on June 16th, 1936.
She starts her days at 3 a.m. with a long run. On average she runs 80 miles a week! After her run, she goes to the gym at 8 a.m. and does resistance training.
Her diet consists mostly of boiled egg whites, chicken, vegetables, and lots of water.
Ernestine was a late starter to fitness, and says didn't really begin to exercise until she was 56.
Now, she holds two bodybuilding titles and a Guinness World Record for "Oldest Female Bodybuilder."
Despite her age, she's in better shape than most people who are decades younger than her.
She says, "Age is nothing but a number and young is just an attitude. Your age should never hinder you from accomplishing your goals. Strive to achieve your dreams at any stage in your life."
She and her husband Colin have been married for 60 years. They have one son and a 20-year-old grandson.
Her trainer, Yohnnie Shambourger, is a former Mr. Universe.
Happy birthday Ernestine! You're an inspiration to us all!
