‘X Factor’ Contestant’s Performance Makes Judge Simon Cowell Break Down In Tears
They say the best songs come straight from the heart. Whenever someone is singing a song and feeling and believing every word they're singing, it's one of those things that just about anyone can recognize instantly when they hear it. That's exactly what happened to Josh Daniel recently when he auditioned for "X Factor (U.K.)."
He chose to sing "Jealous" by British singer/songwriter Labrinth, and dedicated it to a friend who is no longer with us. Although the song's lyrics are about seeing someone you had a relationship with being happy without you, Josh interpreted it as his friend being happy in the afterlife without him instead. His performance is absolutely captivating, and it's clear that he's singing with true heart. The most surprising thing, however, is Simon Cowell's reaction.
Cowell, who is notorious for being incredibly harsh with contestants, looks visibly moved after the performance. He quickly wraps things up by going to a vote and giving Josh a well-deserved "Yes" before walking off backstage and eventually being driven away in a golf cart with his sunglasses on (in a pretty dark backstage area). Although Josh's performance had more than enough merit to produce tears entirely on its own, Cowell's reaction makes even more sense when you learn that his mother, Julie Brett, passed away shortly before the auditions for this season began.
