First came letters, then came the telephone, then came the smartphone. Technology certainly has come a long way since the days when your phone was nailed to the wall. Now, our phones fit in our pockets and function as tiny computers. If you’re like me, you chat mostly through text messaging rather than voice calls. Just like the front-facing camera changed the selfie game, emojis have forever changed the texting game.
Emojis are like clipart for messaging. Long gone are the days when a colon and a parenthesis were how you’d text a smiley face. Now, we have a plethora of smiley face illustrations and all sorts of other little icons to express feelings and emotions. Our beloved smartphones pack rows upon rows of different faces, foods, cars, zodiac signs, and more.
As if our current library wasn’t extensive enough, the Unicode Consortium has approved 72 new emoji designs. There is no exact date set yet, but you can expect these new icons later this year. Among the new designs are a sneezing face, a clown face (no, thank you), a handshake, and pancakes.
There’s also a number of emojis for sports like handball and water polo. Hopefully, these will come in time for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro this August.
Don't forget to SHARE these texting essentials with your friends and family.
