Although it's not an official job requirement for us at Wimp, I can honestly say that pretty much all of us are big-time animal lovers. Spend just a few minutes on our page and you'll see it - we love our furry friends, our feathered friends and even our scaly friends! There's just something incredible about animals, and as humans there's something incredibly fulfilling about spending time and connecting with them. I've known a lot of dogs, for instance, who seem to have an intuitive knack for cuddling up to someone when they're feeling down.
The benefits of cuddling with animals have made animal cafes a popular phenomenon in Japan (and now in the U.S.A. as well). These cafes feature a comfortable setting where customers can enjoy coffee and snacks while snuggling up to one of several animals (usually cats) that call the cafe home. It's a great concept, having a nice latte while petting a kitten and reading a book. Sounds like heaven to me!
Hukulou Coffee is a cat cafe in Osaka, Japan that differs from other cat cafes in one very important way - they also have owls. While most animal cafes feature only one type of animal, Hukulou Coffee has cute, fluffy owls living right alongside sweet, fuzzy kittens in perfect harmony. This is a story of two of the cafe's most famous residents, an owlet named Fuku and a kitten named Marimo.
"Owl cafes" have become very trendy in Japan over the last few years.
The first such cafe was started in Tokyo by a self-proclaimed owl enthusiast, as a place where people could spend time with these magnificent birds in a safe environment. The concept quickly took off and other owl cafes opened up all around Japan.
Hukulou Coffee is an owl cafe in Osaka, Japan. Unlike many other such establishments, however, they also have kittens for people to relax and play with.
Naturally, there's a lot of cuteness going on all around, but there are two residents in particular that have caught everyone's attention - Fuku the owl and Marimo the cat.
This is a photo of their first meeting, where they clearly became instant BFF's.
Since they were so well-cared for at the cafe, they’ve had plenty of time to bond and grow up into rambunctious youngsters.
Here they are on Christmas with their snowman cakes.
Here they are again, about to tuck into personalized bowls of soup and rice (don't worry, they only eat animal-approved foods).
They even travel together!
The duo has gotten so famous, the cafe has even started to sell merchandise inspired by their adorable friendship.
Although owl, cat and other animal cafes were conceptualized in Japan, they're starting to become popular around the world. Here's hoping you get one in your town!
