Flying should be so simple, right? Pack your bags, get to the airport, check in and get on the plane. What could possibly go wrong?
Well, if you're an experienced traveler, you'll already know that everything that can go wrong often will go wrong. You'll end up stuck against a bulkhead, your plane will be late and your luggage won't arrive.
You can't control all of these things as a passenger, but you can control some of them. We've put together some handy hints to make your next flight a much easier proposition. This is how really experienced travelers fly, check it out.
1. Don't Forget To Book Your Seat
When you don't book the seat when you book your ticket, you risk being crammed in at the back with no way to tilt your seat for hours.
2. Don't Dress Down If You Have Meetings On The Ground
You can't assume your flight will be on time or that your hold luggage will arrive with you; if you have a meeting when you arrive, it's best to dress for that meeting.
3. Don't Rely On In-Flight WiFi
You can definitely work in the air, but if the plane's WiFi is down, there are no backup solutions. Don't leave things to the last minute and expect to do them on the plane.
4. Don't Wear Uncomfortable Shoes
If you're going to wear business shoes, it can help to carry some slip-on flats in your hand luggage. Airports can expect you to walk a long, long way between check in and the boarding gate.
5. Don't Forget To Check What Happens When You Land
Make sure you know what the arrangements are when you land; you may want to be in the hotel and freshening up, but your client may be picking you up and taking you to straight to the office.
6. Don't Book A Window Seat
If you're on a long flight, being trapped in the window seat can be a real pain. You're going to have to keep pushing everyone else out to get to the bathroom or stretch your legs.
7. Don't Book An Aisle Seat
If you like to get some rest on a plane, don't book an aisle seat. You may be banged by the cart and worse, you may find yourself getting up all the time to let somebody else out.
8. Don't Forget Your Spare Tote Bag
Keep a cheap $1 tote bag in your suitcase. That way if you find you go over your baggage weight limit, you can quickly shift some stuff into carry-on.
9. Don't Forget It Takes Time To Travel From The Airport
Leave time between landing and your first meeting - lots of time. Life is much easier if you can go at a sensible pace rather than racing around in a panic.
10. Don't Forget Back Up Cosmetics In Carry On
You can't carry all types of cosmetics in carry-on, but you can carry some. They can really come in handy if you need to freshen up on the way to a meeting without unpacking everything first.
We hope that these tips will make your next flying experience as easy as possible.
