Beautiful Bouquet Is Created With Styrofoam Balls

Shop decor and displays always look so expensive and extravagant. We are often impressed with the amount of time and money that must be invested into these intricate arrangements, but most of us may not think about attempting to replicate the decor at home.

When Megan, from the blog Homemade Ginger, entered a popular clothing store, she saw some adorable giant flowers towering over its surrounding displays. They sort of looked like colorful dandelions - the sort that you could find in a children's book or a cheerful painting. When she inspected them up close, she realized that these could easily be made at home. In fact, they are so simple to make that you could even get your kids to help out!

When Megan stepped into the popular store Anthropologie, she saw these charming "flowers" that would make such a delightful addition to any room in the house.

Upon closer inspection, she realized that they were made out of very common materials: Q-tips and Styrofoam. So, she decided to make her own (smaller) version at home.

Her final product is much smaller than the ones at Anthropologie, but they look just as stunning.

To get started, you only need a few simple items:

  • Fake flowers
  • Styrofoam balls
  • Q-tips
  • Food coloring

Start by cutting the Q-tips in half.

Then, begin sticking the ends without the cotton swab into the Styrofoam ball. Make sure that you space them apart a bit, otherwise you won't be able to push the Q-tips in too far.

Once you are satisfied with the overall look of your "flower," it is time to give them color. Simply dip them into a solution of water and food coloring. Keep in mind that the final color on your flowers will be a bit lighter than the solution color, so you may need a stronger mixture if you want brighter shades. You can make them any color that you wish!

Lay the flowers on a towel to dry. While you are waiting, you can prepare the stems for your final product. Take the fake flowers and snip them right at the base of the flower. You will only be using the stems.

When your flowers have thoroughly dried, you can attach the stems by poking them into the Styrofoam. Dab a bit of hot glue on them to ensure they stay in place.

Your flowers are now ready to be displayed! Simply stick them into any vase you want, and they will make an adorable decoration to brighten up any room in the house. Unbelievably easy, right?

They look just like the ones that Megan came across in the clothing store. And they were so affordable and incredibly fun to make.
