This Chocolate Cake Isn't Just Intricately Decorated ... It Moves, Too
This amazing animated cake looks like a real one-of-a-kind. Funnily enough, it isn't (unlike this awesome custom-made one). Known as 'zoetrope cakes', these confections are based on an animation device used before film.
Zoetropes are made of a cylinder with slits cut in the sides, with a sequence of drawings put inside. When the cylinder spins, the sequence of drawings takes on the appearance of motion; the effect is that the viewer sees a short "movie", similar to a flip book.
The artist behind this cake, Alexandre Dubosc, has made zoetrope cakes his specialty. He has made all kinds, including one inspired by the art and films of Tim Burton, the famed director behind "Edward Scissorhands" and "A Nightmare Before Christmas".
