Feet: we walk on them every day, but we typically don't pay a lot of attention to them. Getting healthy starts from the ground up - i.e. with our feet. Unfortunately cleaning them isn't so simple.
After carrying your weight all around all day while smothered under socks and shoes, your feet are going to get dirty. Even just standing still on your feet for long periods of time will cause blood to pool up. Some practitioners of alternative medicine believe that this can lead to a buildup of toxins, which can lead to feeling under the weather. Thanks to one easy DIY treatment, however, you can freshen up and detox your fancy feet with just six items.
1. Gather Your Supplies
First things first, you need to gather your six items. You'll need the following items:
- Adhesive gauze pads
- One onion
- A head of garlic
- A teapot
- A nice pair of socks
2. Prep Your Veggies
Once you've got all your supplies in order, it's time to prep your detox cocktail.
Slice and mince your garlic and onion. These flavorful veggies pack some serious immune-boosting powers. Eating garlic and onion can help flush out your system. When applied to the skin, it is believed to be able to open up your pores and pull out toxins.
3. Bring Everything To A Boil
Tales of Japanese Tea
Toss your veggies into your teapot and fill it up halfway full with hot water. The garlic and onion will infuse the water with allicin - a strong antibacterial and anti-inflammatory compound.
Bring your water to a boil. Once reached, leave your teapot alone to cool off. Wait until the temperature reaches bathwater levels.
4. Prep Your Gauze
Once cooled down, pour the water onto an adhesive gauze pad until it's nice and damp.
5. Apply Gauze To Feet
Healthy Fit Tips
Apply the damp, yet sticky pad to the bottom of your feet. Different placements on the foot could alleviate different parts of the body. If you don't know where to start, try the ball of the foot. This is where people tend to apply the most pressure.
6. Slip On Some Socks
Hold your gauze pad in place by slipping on a pair of socks. Pick a pair that is tight but won't restrict circulation. Keep your gauze and socks on overnight.
7. Peel Off Your Gauze
In the morning, slowly peel off the gauze. The area soaked in your detox concoction should have turned a brownish color. It won't look pretty, but it's exactly what we want.
Overnight, the allicin interacts with the chemicals in your skin to turn your pad brown.
Why Don't You Try This?
You can substitute the detox solution altogether with a raw onion. Some prefer this easier variation, since it simply requires slipping an onion slice into your socks overnight. Whichever method you go with, you are sure to come out with happier, healthier feet.
