Divers Encounter A Just Plain Bizarre Ocean Monster
The ocean is known for being mysterious. Humans don't breathe very easily underwater, and we do even worse at coping with the insane pressures as the water gets deeper and darker. Seeing your way around with no sunlight is another challenge. But we've been building devices to allow us a peek or two into the abyss for a while now. The sights we've seen have been something else. It seems like when you get to a certain depth, you can't turn around without spotting some life-form that to our eyes is basically an alien.
In this video, apparently taken by an ROV with a robotic camera, an undulating form appears and begins to dance in front of the lens. What it is, nobody's certain. The best guess is the appropriately named Deepstaria Enigmatica jellyfish. An enigma indeed. I've watched it several times and still can't quite figure out how it could be alive.
