Much like humans, animals are capable of forming deep, emotional bonds with one another. Such was the bond between Flora the dog and her feline best friend, Dexter.
Unfortunately, time waits for no man (or animal), and Dexter passed away recently. Ever since then, Flora has been inconsolably sad. She'd spent many years with Dexter by her side and missed her best friend. It seemed that nobody in the family could do anything to bring the smile back to her face.
They tried everything they could think of to cheer her up, but to no avail. That's when they decided to resort to plan B.
The family adopted two cats to hopefully help ease Flora's pain, but it didn't quite go as planned. Neither cat wanted to hang out with her, and it seemed to make the poor dog even more depressed. That's when someone had a stroke of genius and brought home a litter of four kittens.
The adorable kittens - Roxy, Iggy, Bowie, and Glamour - were welcomed enthusiastically by the kids in the house, and seemed to be the answer to Flora's prayers.
As soon as Flora laid eyes on the bundles of joy, she perked right up. Even better, the kittens weren't scared of her!
"Iggy was the first brave boy," says Flora's owner, Jill Williams. "He went right up to Flora and sniffed her nose. She gently brought her face down to meet his and got a huge smile on her face."
Iggy's sister, Glamour, was the next to approach Flora, who lay still with a huge grin on her face as Glamour sniffed at her ears.
"I truly think Flora is the kitten whisperer," says Jill.
Flora has been a huge help with the growth and development of the kittens, who will be up for adoption soon. Don't worry, though, because the family plans to foster another litter of kittens so that Flora still has someone to take care of. After all, you can't let nurturing skills like that go to waste for too long!
