When the Royal Society of Prevention of Cruelty To Animals found Polly in Buckinghamshire, England, it looked like it was already too late. Polly, a horse that should weigh at least 1,400 pounds, had lost more than half her body weight and was practically decomposing on the ground where she'd been abandoned.
The Horse Trust, a rescue and rehabilitation group, took Polly in and documented her recovery. Although these photos of her transformation are graphic, her story is an inspiration of this stunning animal's will to survive.
When the RSPCA found her, Polly was severely underweight.
Under the loving care of the Horse Trust, Polly's condition slowly improved.
Because of the severity of her neglect, Polly was fighting rain scald and dermatitis.
After months of rehabilitation at the Horse Trust's sanctuary, Polly was finally able to run through the fields like every horse deserves!
