Two Feral Cats Inspired This House Remodel
From the outside of this Californian home, you would never guess that its occupants include 18 indoor cats. However, that's not the most surprising part about it. Featured in the video below, this home is designed to be a little slice of heaven for the felines.
This incredible project started out when Peter Cohen purchased a home just north of Santa Barbara. To his surprise, the house came with a couple of occupants – two stray cats. While caring for the cats in his home, both were tragically involved in accidents where they were struck by cars. Since then, Peter has sworn that any future cats would be indoor only. But can staying indoors really provide enough stimulation for the animals?
As a solution to this problem, Peter began an expansive remodeling of his home. This endeavor wasn't easy, but luckily he has experience as he is the co-owner of Trillium Enterprise Custom Builders. With access to some of the best experts and craftsmen, the home was eventually turned into a wonderland full of catwalks, tunnels, stairs, ledges and platforms.
As for how all those cats got there, Peter said in an interview with Catster, "All 18 are rescue cats. We used to adopt them from either the Humane Society or the local animal shelter, but they started refusing to give us any more because they said we had too many. So we started adopting from out-of-town shelters. We try to take the kittens that other people don't want, especially kittens that have been traumatized."
