Mehmet Ilhan and his dog, Cesur, were absolutely inseparable. When Mehmet came down with an illness that left him paralyzed, Cesur was by his best friend's side every day. And when he was hospitalized, Cesur took it pretty hard.
"Because of my father’s paralysis, they had a different kind of connection," explains Mehmet's son, Ali. "When my father was in the hospital during his last days, Cesur stopped eating."
Sadly, Mehmet's disease was fatal, leaving the dog in his son's care. When Mehmet's body was brought back home before the funeral, Cesur never left his side and then led the funeral procession to his best friend's final resting place before paying his final respects. Afterwards, Ali took Cesur back home.
One day, he noticed that Cesur was going for very long walks by himself - sometimes for hours at a time. His curiosity piqued, he decided to follow the dog to see where it was going. What he discovered brought him to tears - Cesur had led him right to his father's grave!
Ali spoke to the cemetery groundskeeper and found out that every day after the funeral, Cesur had been coming back to Mehmet's grave to sit and spend a few hours paying his respects to his departed best friend. Since learning this about this beautiful secret, Ali has started joining Cesur on his daily walks.
"Cesur has always been a noble animal," he says. "He will live with me from now on."
It just goes to show how deep the bonds we have with our animals can be - not just for us, but for them as well. Don't forget to SHARE this touching story with your family and friends.
