Here's Why You Shouldn't Rinse Your Dishes

I know this might be an unpopular opinion, but I actually love doing the dishes. You start with a huge, dirty mess, and by the end you're left with pile of spotless plates and silverware. And if you've got someone to do them with you, even better! One of you washes, the other dries, and you can even put on some sweet tunes to dance to while you do it.

These days, however, most people use dishwashers to clean their smaller dishes. If it isn't a big pot or pan, chances are it's loaded into the washer to be cleaned at a later time. But, before doing so, we often give our plates and silverware a good rinse before we put them in the dishwasher. We want to make sure it gets completely clean, and the machine might not be able to handle all the crud that's stuck to the plate, right? Well, as it turns out, this practice might be doing more harm than good.

A recent news report revealed that "pre-rinsing" plates before using the dishwasher can be a waste of both water and energy. Modern dishwashers are more powerful than people give them credit for, and many contain technology that allows them to detect how dirty the contents are and clean them accordingly. By making your plates appear cleaner than they actually are, your dishwasher might not wash them as well it needs to. So, what's the solution? Check out the clip below for some great advice on getting your dishes as clean as possible, without wasting all of that water and energy.
