Heroic Final Act Saves The Lives Of Two Fellow Veterans
Heroism comes in all shapes and sizes. Not every soldier's greatest act of service will come on the battlefield. Matthew Whalen survived his tours in the Army, but tragically suffered a sudden brain hemmorhage, leaving him in a vegetative state. His family made the incredibly hard decision to take him off life support, but not before fellow veterans, hospital staff and family formed an impromptu honor guard for the proud soldier.
It was an incredibly sad moment for everyone who knew him, but in a strange way, there was a glimmer of hope and happiness in it all. Matthew's wife learned that his donated organs would be received by two fellow veterans in dire need of transplants.
