Mason jars' threaded neck and screw on lid make it ideal for home canning to preserve food. Often sold through antique stores and online, collectors eagerly seek mason jars. Colored jars have been considered better for canning use, as they block some light from reaching the food, which helps to retain flavor and nutritional value longer. I have never heard of mason jars used like they are in this video.
