Do you love pineapples? I'm practically obsessed with them! I buy at least one pineapple a week, and use it to make smoothies as well as to eat as a snack. They're absolutely delicious in pretty much any form. Unfortunately, once a pineapple is picked, it stops ripening. That means that however juicy and sweet it is at the time of picking is as good as it'll get.
It turns out, however, that there's actually something you can do to improve the taste and preserve the pineapple for a bit longer.
What To Do:
- Cut the top off the pineapple.
- Stand the pineapple on a plate with the cut side down.
- Cover with plastic wrap or tin foil and refrigerate for 2-3 days, depending on how patient you are.
Why It Works:
Quite simply - gravity! The pineapple is ripest - and juiciest and sweetest - at the bottom of the fruit where it's connected to the rest of the plant.
