It's a problem almost all of us have, but we never want to admit - our feet stink. I'll be brave and use myself as an example so nobody else has to. In college, my shoes stunk so bad that my roommates forced me to keep them in the hallway because they made our room smell unbearable, and then I got in trouble with the RA for stinking up the hall. While my shoe situation has gotten a little bit better over the years, it's still something I need to be aware of.
I've tried small things that have seemed to work, like obsessively washing socks and sprinkling baby powder in them overnight, but this DIY shoe powder may be the best solution out there. It comes courtesy of the YouTube channel Clean My Space. Here is what you'll need:
- A sandwich bag or container
- Baking soda
- Baking powder
- Corn starch
- Essential oil
The best part? You can make it in bunches and have it labeled in plastic bags ready for use at any time. The powder won't just get rid of the bad smell, it will give your shoes a unique and fresh scent thanks to the few drops of essential oils that are used. You can watch the video below to see just how this genius concoction is made, and then you can slip some in your loved one's dirty shoes when they're not looking.
