Huge Mistakes In "Titanic" That Actually Made It To The Movie’s Final Release

Titanic is director James Cameron's biggest box office hit. In fact, it's the biggest hit at the global box office in history.

This film told the story of the ill-fated ocean liner Titanic and those who sailed on her. It was a smash everywhere thanks to the onscreen chemistry of Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio as Rose and Jack.

It was also a big budget production, so you'd have thought that they'd have paid careful attention to detail while shooting—but as you'll see, there are an awful lot of little mistakes in the finished movie. Come and check them out with us, they're really interesting.

1. The Moving Beauty Mark Of Rose Dawson

Headcramp

In the first scene of the movie, Rose has a beauty mark on the left-hand side of her face. Then every other time we see her, it's on the right-hand side.

2. Not By The Head At All

Headcramp

When the captain says, "the ship is going down by the head," he is proving he is an actor and not a seaman. It should be "bow," not "head."

3. The "Unsinkable Molly Brown" Wasn't Either

Headcramp

Historians say that not only was she clearly not unsinkable, but Molly's real name was Maggie, not Molly. Double fail for the film here.

4. The Dancing Roses

Headcramp

Continuity is hard to keep on set. When filming takes a break, things get moved. Like the roses in this scene, which move all over the room by themselves.

5. Jack's Disappearing Suspenders

Headcramp

You can tell this scene must have needed a few takes, because sometimes Jack is wearing suspenders for his pants and sometimes he isn't.

6. You Can See The Stage Lights

Headcramp

Everybody's dealing with the frantic action and nobody is paying attention to the little details—like the stage light visible at left in this scene.

7. Rose's Transforming Makeup

Headcramp

Every other sequence has Kate Winslet's Rose wearing slightly different makeup. A woman's makeup is one of the hardest things to get consistently right in a movie.

8. Where Did The Lace Go

Headcramp

Jack is persuading Rose not to jump. She's clinging on to a piece of black lace. The camera angle changes and she's not. The lace is gone.

9. The Lie About The Necklace

Headcramp

Rose claims only to have worn the necklace once before in her life because it's so precious to her. Then she wears it twice in two days on the Titanic.

10. The Ice Crystals, They Come And They Go

Headcramp

We can see how getting ice crystals in the same places would be really tricky, but it does disturb the continuity of this sequence when Jack's ice crystals keep appearing and disappearing.

11. The Reflected Reality

Headcramp

It's not magic, making movies—it requires tools, and somebody missed the reflection of the cameras in the window of this scene during editing.

12. The Ephemeral Coat

Headcramp

The passenger walks one way and their coat is blue, the camera moves in on Jack and the coat is transformed to a completely different color.

13. The Axe In Motion

Headcramp

Rose puts the axe down to look for Jack so that she can use it to cut him free. While she looks, the axe moves all by itself—several times.

14. The Glass That Returns

Headcramp

Rose grabs an axe, but then there's a glass pane that appears between her and the axe before she can pull it free. That's pretty peculiar.

15. Jack Can Thank His Lucky Stars For Props

Headcramp

When Rose tries to cut off the handcuffs Jack's wearing, it's pretty clear that she hits his wrist with the axe. Thankfully, it's fake.

Who would have thought there would be so many mistakes in the world's most popular movie?

16. That Moment With The Wires

Thumbpress

Yup, there's a moment when the people on the deck are visibly dragged through the tears with wires. This is quite common in movies to be fair to the team.

17. The Blurring Of The Line

Thumbpress

This is just a bit odd. There's a moment when a line on a piece of paper becomes much fainter for no good reason (or at least none that the viewer is given).

18. That Axe Again

Thumbpress

You'd think that an axe would be one of those props you'd keep an eye on, wouldn't you? Yet, it regularly changed position throughout the movie.

19. Jack's Hair In Motion

Thumbpress

In this scene, Jack doesn't touch his hair and there's no breeze, but as the camera angle changes, so does his hair's position.

20. The Necklace Stone Goes Wandering

Thumbpress

That necklace, which definitely was worn more than once even though Rose said it wasn't, also has a stone that decides to shift around at random. Maybe it's alive?

21. As If By Magic The Folder Disappears

Thumbpress

This is quite clever and we imagine that even David Copperfield would like to know how it's done. There's a folder in hand and then there's isn't. Where did it go? We'll never know.

22. The Wall Walks Away

Thumbpress

Actually, it might have run away. The only thing we know for sure is that the wall was clearly there and then it clearly wasn't.

23. The Mutating Deck Anchor

Thumbpress

You'd think that with a prop of this size, nobody would want to move it around. But they did and they replaced it with a completely different anchor at random too.

24. The Ships Shifts Shape

Thumbpress

Yup, even the Titanic itself is not immune from a physical transformation, and the ship is noticeably different at sea compared to when it was in the dock.

25. Jack's Hair Does It Again

Thumbpress

First, Jack's hair untucks itself without a hand and then in another scene, this one, it manages to slick itself back without being touched too!
