If You Lose Your Keys, Here's How To Unlock Your Car In Less Than 30 Seconds

Just about all of us have locked our keys in our car at one time or another. Or maybe your kids or your significant other has done it for you. Either way, once it happens, it's definitely the kind of thing that can ruin your day.

Even if you have a set of spare keys, stuff happens, and you may find yourself in a situation where you don't have your spare keys handy. When that happens, what are you going to do? Call your family and have them make fun of you? Pay a bunch of money to a locksmith?

If you don't feel like going through that kind of hassle, why not try this method? It works like a dream, provided you have a car with exposed locks on top of the door. Cars with locks on the inside panel of the door won't work with this trick.

  • String that is the length of your car door, plus one foot (the one in the video is two meters, roughly 6.5 feet).

1. Tie a knot

Fold the string in half and make a small slip knot. It should tighten when you pull each end.

2. String it through

With the string ends in your hands, slip the string over the door frame. It should fit through the crack between the door and the frame.

3. Lasso the lock

Loop the lasso over the locks knob and gently pull so that it secures tightly around the lock.

4. Pop the lock

Pull the ends of the string up until the lock pops up and the car opens.

Watch the video below to see how to do this in detail. Another great tip is to use a shoestring if a regular string is not available. If one lace is not long enough you can probably tie two of them together. If you've got a car that unlocks by pulling the door handle from the inside, you could try to slip the string over the handle instead.

Please keep in mind that this tip is meant to be used in an emergency scenario only. We do not advise or condone using this method to open up someone else's car without their permission.

Be sure to SHARE this with your family and friends.
