An Intensive Care Nurse Has A Surprise Reunion With Every Baby She's Ever Helped Save
Having a baby is supposed to be one of the happiest moments of someone's life, but sadly for some parents that joy is clouded by health complications that result in their baby having to stay in the hospital for a little longer. A Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is an ICU that specializes in caring for premature or otherwise ill newborns. The nurses that work in these units often form special bonds with their wards and their families.
As part of an ongoing series of videos called "Messages of Care," Kleenex recently arranged to give one beloved nurse at WellStar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, Georgia a very special surprise. Renee Hendrix has been working at the hospital's NICU since 1982 and has dedicated her life to the babies she nursed back to health. Initially, she watches a video of the many, many happy families whose lives she's touched giving their sincerest thanks, but the real kicker is when they all appear in person - along with photos of their time under her care. By the end, I had a lump in my throat as big as some of the babies Renee has healed.
