There are many things that unite us as human beings. Our needs to love, to create, and to explore are some of the better ones. The most tragic thing to unite us? Death. It comes for all of us some day, and we pray that we lived well in the time that we had, and that we'll be remembered fondly by the ones we loved. The best that you can hope for, regardless of whether you're on the deathbed or merely beside it, is that you get to express to each other how much you meant to one another. Our bodies are ethereal, but love is everlasting.
For those of us left behind after the loss of a loved one, nothing can be said to ever adequately describe the emptiness and sorrow. Any earthly possessions and remnants of the deceased take on so much value. For one family, a simple message scrawled hastily on the bottom of a workbench proved to be exactly that, and so much more.
Recently, an Imgur user posted this photo to the popular image-sharing website, along with the following explanation:
"My dad passed away on February 26th at the age of 51 from a ruptured artery. He made this workbench for my mom when she got into metal engraving."
As you see, there's a little message scrawled under the bench. It reads:
"I love you, Becca. Whatever day this is, I hope it's a good one. God truly answered my prayers the day he gave me you. I know that these days are the best I'll ever have, and I’m glad you're in them. I'm not sure if you'll ever see this, but if you do, just know that I love you very much. If there is one thing I want in life, it is to be as good to you as you are to me. If I can do that, I'll be the happiest man alive.
“I love you, beautiful wife"
Wow. I can't even imagine how the family must have felt upon discovering that message. That is so touching. Excuse me while I go hug and squeeze my wife.
