Miley Cyrus recently served as the artist-in-residence for the week on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon to promote her upcoming album, Younger Now. Since her week on the show started right after the absolutely horrific, tragic shooting in Las Vegas, she kicked off her first performance with a truly heartfelt tribute to the victims.
As Jimmy Fallon, host of the show, explained, "We're here to entertain you tonight, and that's what we're gonna do."
Cyrus was accompanied by fellow guest Adam Sandler, who played guitar and sang along as well. The duo performed Dido's 2013 song, "No Freedom," a song with lyrics that Cyrus described as "so important at this time." There is one line in particular that stands out: "There's no love without freedom / No freedom without love."
Cyrus also sang a song she hasn't performed live in over six years - "The Climb." She later took to Twitter to explain that her performance was dedicated "to not only mourning this horrific event but using this platform to encourage unity, peace & hopefulness [...] These words mean more now to me than ever."
The emotional performance by Cyrus and Sandler had many people talking. "This is beautiful," wrote one commenter, while another added, "Adam Sandler is an underrated artist and Miley is just perfect, what a great performance!"
