Never Pay A Fee For Canceling A Doctor's Appointment Again With This Simple Trick

How many times has it happened to you: you have a doctor's appointment coming up when some kind of emergency pops up requiring you to cancel that long-awaited (or dreaded) appointment with very short notice. Naturally, like any responsible adult, you call the doctor's office to cancel the appointment, only to find that you're going to get slapped with a nasty fee for canceling too late!

We're not entirely sure why this fee exists (beyond annoying us) - most likely it's to encourage people to take their appointments more seriously and/or to pay for any work done in preparation for your appointment. Either way, if you miss your cancellation window (usually anywhere from a week to 48 hours prior to the appointment), you'll find yourself being forced to pay up.

It's a common enough problem, however, that one Reddit user came up with a brilliant (and borderline ridiculous) solution to avoiding this cancellation charge.

It all started when Redditor Sh0tgunLlama asked a simple question:

Another Redditor, Stellapotamus, responded with this ingenious solution to how he/she was able to cancel an appointment without a fee. Here's what they did:

“I went to cancel a doctor’s appointment and they said it was a $200 charge without a week’s notice. I asked how much it was to reschedule and she said it was free.

‘Okay, so I need to reschedule for two weeks out.’

‘Is three weeks okay?”

‘Alright, you’re all set for three weeks from now. Is there anything else I can do for you?’

‘Yes, I need to cancel my appointment.’

‘We need a week’s notice.’

‘My appointment is three weeks away.’

‘Oh. Okay. Sure.’

‘Thank you.’

Couldn’t believe it worked.”

How awesome is that?! It didn't take long before Reddit was exploding with praise for this brilliantly simple loophole. Here's what one Redditor had to say:
