How many times has it happened to you: you have a doctor's appointment coming up when some kind of emergency pops up requiring you to cancel that long-awaited (or dreaded) appointment with very short notice. Naturally, like any responsible adult, you call the doctor's office to cancel the appointment, only to find that you're going to get slapped with a nasty fee for canceling too late!
We're not entirely sure why this fee exists (beyond annoying us) - most likely it's to encourage people to take their appointments more seriously and/or to pay for any work done in preparation for your appointment. Either way, if you miss your cancellation window (usually anywhere from a week to 48 hours prior to the appointment), you'll find yourself being forced to pay up.
It's a common enough problem, however, that one Reddit user came up with a brilliant (and borderline ridiculous) solution to avoiding this cancellation charge.
