People Step Into This Huge Black Box To Create "dancing" Stop Light Animations
The dancing traffic light is a concept developed by car manufacturer, Smart, in order to improve pedestrian safety on busy streets. Instead of using the generic red man found on traditional traffic lights, the dancing traffic light uses an animated figure controlled by people's dance moves. Each dancer's movements shows up on the stop light in real time, which gives pedestrians something entertaining to watch while waiting to cross the street. When the traffic light was installed on the streets, it resulted in 81% more people stopping and waiting at those red lights. The results of this simple experiment show that people are willing to wait for something if they are being entertained at the same time.
