Polish Craftsman Makes Fully Functional Bicycles Without Any Metal Or Plastic

Feb 11, 2015

Slawomir Weremkowicz is taking the concept of a "green vehicle" to new heights. The 59-year-old Polish plumber and artist makes fully-functional bicycles carved entirely out of wood.

Hailing from the small city of Biala Podlaska, Slawomir has always had a passion for art. When he discovered he had a talent for wood carving, he decided to do something truly unique.

He calls his creations "wooden dinosaurs," and each one takes about a year to make. Slawomir uses simple hand tools to carve every single component entirely out of wood. Looking for screws? There aren't any, the bikes are held together using hand-carved wooden pegs.

Slawomir's works have been displayed in various galleries and museums in Poland. His work is truly one-of-a-kind. Some of his pieces can be seen zipping around Biala Podlaska, since Slawomir rides one of his bikes every day.
