PTSD Service Dogs Interrupts Soldier's Interview For A Very Important Reason
This soldier, Erick Scott, returned from serving overseas in the military with PTSD, like many other service members. Post-traumatic stress disorder is one of the greatest challenges facing soldiers today and can cause many serious symptoms, such as depression, aggressive behavior, flashbacks, anxiety, and self-destructive behavior. A group called K9s for Warriors has stepped in to help those vets suffering from PTSD. This non-profit provides service dogs, like Erick's dog Gumbo, to returning service members to help them lead as normal a life as possible. The dogs are trained to notice signs of distress and respond in a way that helps lessen the distress, like distracting their warrior or nudging them awake during violent nightmares.
