The Robert W. Coleman School in Baltimore, Maryland is making a big splash for a unique reason. You see, instead of detention, students at this Baltimore elementary are instructed to meditate!
Yep, that's right. This school has a Mindful Moment Room - a colorful "oasis of calm" that is a stark contrast to the windowless rooms that most of us grew up going to detention in. The Mindful Moment Room is part of an afterschool program called Holistic Me, which teaches kids to practice mindful meditation and breathing exercises, as well as encouraging them to speak with behavioral professionals.
The program has had very impressive results, and since initiating the program two years ago, the school hasn't had to issue a single suspension.
